Opinion: War in Ukraine is Immoral and Evil

The war in Ukraine has sucked all the air out of my brain. I woke up in tears today. I have nightmares about burying my children. Hats off to the diplomats who attempted to avert this humanitarian disaster.

I think Russia overplayed its hand. The economic landscape is not the Russian high ground, no matter how dark its money gets. I know my unqualified opinion means little, but I add it to the voices that oppose Putin and his murderous schemes. War is immoral and bad for children. I have aided people escaping genocidal war. I managed a youth hostel in the Mediterranean in my youth, ages ago. I collected a lot of heartbreaking and miraculous stories that I never wanted. I wanted sun, poetry, and a sense of wonder, but that’s not why people wage war on another people. What kind of warrior am I, then? My cat trained me well.

I sleep poorly these days. I feel that drone technology has enormous potential to shift the needle in healthcare services and design. Drones are simple agile machines. In the future, robotics will assume new and interesting forms, hybridizations of existing forms of transport, according to feasibility, market demand, and liability, probably.

Drones get a bad rap until you need them

There’s the rub. Drones are a vision in the blue, but for me, they blew all my money, too, so my interest is in them are limited to the degree to which they help me learn. They helped mollify Afghanistan? Quite the opposite. When the Taliban are requesting restraint from Putin, you know things are different. I have to clean my brain glasses for a minute. As a former exchange student who was honored to have a chance to live in the home of people very different from me – in language, religion, culture, mannerisms, and spirit – I am grateful to be someone who can reasonably seek paths of peace. I learned how small I was. What little time on Earth I have can be spent in tasks that will have legs. Space migration is the penumbral choice, because it multiplies timelines as well as lifetimes. It offers different paths of evolution itself.

People are dying in an unnecessary war…against poor people. Ukraine is the poorest country in Europe…emerging from a pandemic. This is not a good time to disrupt an already unsteady boat.

War is sometimes avoidable. War in Ukraine is such a war. The choice to invade another country and murder civilians as they flee their crumbing cities on foot is nothing but evil. I have met and aided refugees escaping genocide before, heard tales from ordinary people that would give you nightmares for…thirty years and counting. Privilege fuels alienation. I prefer my uneasy sleep to ignorance. Sleep is a luxury for a lot of people today. People are dying in an unnecessary war…against poor people. Ukraine is the poorest country in Europe.

None until next week. Honestly, I am sort of wiped out this week. I had to deal with a scam artist last week, inflation, and dad stuff. The world is pitched towards chaos because of a madman in Russia. There are 100Ks of registered drone pilots in the US. That helps me sleep. People need to heal from damage caused by this pandemic.
