Weather – Community Development – Marketing – Safety Awareness – New Gear and the Cash Poor Remix
Snowed in – I spent the week trying to find galoshes for an eight-year-old child. I found them on a nearly bare shelf. The department store had THREE PAIR of boys’ rubber galoshes. Unbelievably, one of the pair was the size I needed.
We were expecting a foot of snow. It was already well below freezing when the storm in, so the snow fell in icy pellets. The snow had the consistency of beach sand. Icy pellets make for slow walking. Figure 1 helped me anticipate Figure 2.
Seriously, I never found any adult galoshes anywhere.
Community Development
How It’s Going: Update
Verticals is a local community development center that hopes to energize Brownsville’s future with after-school programs that enrich young lives and provide a sense of pride in community. A link to the group is provided. I signed on as a drone coach and kicked them some material for training modules. I was going to teach kids how to fly recreational drones, get the manadatory – and EASY -TRUST flyer certificate from the FAA, online, for free, and then get down to business. I was going to teach them how to make a video with a drone. We would go over flight plans, cinematography, operations, editing, and then presentation. This module was planned to integrate seamlessly within a larger ecosystem of course in other technology applications, physical well-being, and business development.
Topics in the Verticals Youth Empowerment program include artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, drones, digital fabrication, coding, media production, design studio, blockchain, and crypto. They are presented alongside fitness and wellness resources. Verticals Youth Empowerment Center is designed to stimulate young minds, give parents an inclusive environment in which to socialize, and to offer youth a sense of pride in themselves and their community. I am really excited to be a part of the team.

Registration process underway for contract opportunities with people who contract with the government, construction, or otherwise. I improved the Portfolio page layout slightly.

PAVE
PAVE helps you check yourself before you wreck yourself. PAVE stands for Pilot, Aircraft, enVironment, and External pressures. The human factor is the weak link, so IMSAFE is a detailed checklist-within-a-checklist to optimize flight performance. The pilot is part of the uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) that captures data and transfers data to other applications, such as printers, videography editing suites, GIS platforms, construction plans, test beds, even accounting. We live in an age of data mobility, and drones, they are definitely a part of that technology profile. Drones are an interlocution of a vast array of emerging technologies. IMSAFE in PAVE.

Struggling Under Clouds of Algorithms…to find a day off so I can attend to a writing gig
Absolutely zero dollars made in 2021. We lost our child tax credit, and our gas subsidy has disappeared. Inflation is at a generational high, up 7% in October. That is bad weather. When I get on the computer and have to decide between a two-hour dive into a writing gig for no money, or possibly applying to three more jobs, I pick the job search route. Times are turning dark for working people like myself. I worry about the world my kids will face. We are at the mercy of wolves that have no names, they have no dens. Their fangs drip with overfitted curves. Their howls are soft as hot butter. We are relics on smoother curves leading to slimming margins, we slide down taller and taller throats. Except…I am on the outside, a dab of grease on the way to the floor…splat! Why do you think I concern myself with flight all the time?
I miss the days when I could stow my kids in school and put efforts into work I can always find in ample supply within a quiet place. That is why I like engineering departments. Dead silence. Libraries. Cricketcore. I am basically Link’s guide in Zelda: Breath of the Wild now. My kid has no playmates unless I make an effort. I wonder what would happen to my son if no one ever played with him, never joined him in games, took him to parks, and in Figure 3, to places for exploration? Who invites him to look up?
