Preparing for excursions

I need to go visit and photograph new locations. I got pretty bored with the hazy uniformity of the green hills and hollers. I have seen and photographed so much around here that I am turning to the GoPro for new material, new angles.

Road trips are opportunities for the odd timelapse and time warp clips, a chance to broaden my understanding of the world. i can decompress. After that, I usually discover my familiar territory has new and trivial content. A subaltern substitute teacher, I am feeling the rawness of inflation. I will be exploring in-state stuff this year. I have reservations for the Lake Erie solar eclipse in April 2024. I made reservations this week for glamping, camping, and hoteling my way across the midlands of Pennsylvania.

I am visiting a canyon, a dark sky location, and Lake Erie again this summer.

Projects

• Ground-pounding for a mechatronics job. Never changes. I tried to get a summer job this week by showing up at a jobsite fresh Monday morning for a possible, yet unconfirmed interview. I was advised there was no interview. One of those temp-to-perm jobs good for HS graduates or close facsimile thereof. I am not that.
• Working with a local historical society to raise the profile of its sites.
• Catching up on research.
• Enrolled in a coding bootcamp.
• Endurance training.
• Planning a cinematic clinic of intelligent flight functions in a 45-second shot that involves a moving vehicle, so I need a driver.
  • Please drop me a message if interested. The drawings are sort of hard to understand, but I have the entire thing in my head.
  • I am looking for an industrial backdrop, so I am probably going to shoot this in a mid-Mon Valley abandoned industrial park. It started with shots blocked out for a figure, then a vehicle.
  • I had to calculate the distances, velocity, framing, pans, waypoints, headings, and action. I film from the backseat of the automobile, out of sight from the viewer, but the shot begins in an autonomous flight mode. I have experience going over the hood of a moving vehicle and tumbling away, but I am not sure I can teach that in an afternoon.
    • From above: As the scene unfolds, degrees of autonomy are dropped.
      • I begin stage right, move 100 feet left, then 60 feet to center, then 60 more to a vehicle depicted lower right.
      • The vehicle speeds away, accelerating at 10 ft/second squared.
      • It reaches 320 feet at 6.6 seconds, giving me time for the fade to the credit sequence. A title screen comes in at 41 seconds, and at 45 seconds, the scene reappears with the car in the distance, a buffer shot.
        • It could even use audio from the next scene to improve the transition.
        • The person(s) speaking are affected by the automobile going somewhere. This scene can’t be any more complex because I’ve run out of indents on WordPress.

• Hobby RC kit arrived, will assemble and explore functions
• Got a price on an AI-enhanced thermal camera. Still not ready to sell my kidneys, but it is tempting.
• Made a lunar calendar spinner with laminated paper and the hub of a fidget spinner. I got the project from JPL. I replaced the ‘brass fastener’ with part of a toy.
